Balsamic Moon

October 16 Monday
We start this last week of a lunation cycle with a Leo Moon reminding us to stay tuned to our inner confidence and be sensitive to the emotional environment which can provide previews of where and on what matters we need to apply ourselves. This may call for reorganizing schedules. At 3:00 pm, MDT, the Moon goes void of course for the rest of the day. This energetic shift may slow us down as the Moon extinguishes the vibrant and often flamboyant flames of Leo. This can be an excellent time to withdraw and embrace some alone time with a creative project.

October 17 Tuesday
The Moon is in Virgo, tapping us into the vibrancy of nature, even as it appears to be fading. Consider how even the dead leaves play a role in the preservation of life, covering the ground to protect and nurture newly exposed seeds. Virgo teaches us what is needed at each stage of life. And today’s lesson is about what needs to die so that progress can be made. Tonight at 7:37 pm, MDT, the Moon enters her balsamic phase, a time to let what is useless, outdated, and no longer serviceable go. Allow weaknesses and dangerous, shadowy behaviors to ooze out of you.

October 18 Wednesday
Wednesday’s balsamic Virgo Moon wants us to gather enough information, both subliminal and overt, to construct a coherent vision of what may be uncovered or attended to with the new Moon on Saturday. This requires crossing into the psychic realm of the unknown and allowing your emotions to guide you. If we unite both our rational, everyday reality with the random feelings of our inner world, we can make decisions about the future that make our hearts sing and dance. Allow your inner awareness to intrude and enhance your outer expression.

October 19 Thursday
The Virgo Moon is void of course Thursday morning. She’s raking out dead ideas, and composting for new ones. Step gently and slowly into the day, and allow some time for reflection on how you have been able to keep your mind focused on some goal over the passed month, even in the midst of chaos. The Moon returns at noon to the degree of the last new Moon which emphasized priorities. At 1:19 pm, MDT, the Moon moves into Libra, helping us relax into and accommodate the mytho-poetic sensitivities of this final stage in her cycle.

October 20 Friday
Friday’s dark, hidden Libra Moon is poised between the habituated bleakness of continuing to live in the past and the unique liberation of choosing a brighter, yet unfamiliar, future. We need to understand that expanding one’s personal and social limits exposes us to unpleasantries and perhaps even deception, but it is a risk worth taking if only for the illumination of some spiritual truths. Listen to MoonWise tomorrow on the worldwide web at ksfr.org from 1:00 to 1:30 pm, MDT, for the weekend Moon Minute.

October 21 Saturday
Through our social participation with Saturday’s Libra Moon, we can feel linked to how we are different yet the same. We can sense our values converging, those that are truly empty with those that are rich in blessings. At 11:14 pm, MDT, the Moon conjoins the Sun to begin a new cycle that can put us on the cutting edge of evolution by helping us bridge differences between the maneuvers of the past and the invocation of our souls’ abilities to radically make connections for a progressively different future. We have Scorpio Moon on Sunday for grasping the social complexities of this new cycle.
